
Three-day (over 3 weeks) guided coursework outlining the basic elements needed to work in either a skilled nursing or acute care facility infection prevention department. There will be various lessons spanning the entire breadth of the infection prevention profession, furnished to healthcare in California. The virtual platform will be Microsoft Teams.

Participants will be able to define key terms (e.g., healthcare-associated infections, transmission routes), explain the role of various microorganisms in disease transmission, and apply evidence-based practices to reduce infection risks in healthcare settings.
Participants will be able to identify and differentiate between standard and transmission-based precautions, implement appropriate measures to prevent common healthcare-associated infections (e.g., CAUTI, CLABSI, SSI), and tailor interventions to the specific needs of acute care or long-term care settings.
Participants will be able to interpret NHSN data, analyze trends in infection rates, conduct outbreak investigations, and use quality improvement methodologies to drive continuous improvement in infection prevention programs.
Participants will be able to describe the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals in infection prevention, communicate effectively with team members about infection risks and prevention strategies, and advocate for evidence-based practices to reduce infections and improve patient outcomes.
