International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 of every year. It commemorates the movement for women’s rights. March 8, was suggested by the 1910 International Socialist Women’s Conference to become an “International Women’s Day”. By 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8, as the United Day for women’s rights and world peace. In some countries, International Women’s Day is observed as the equivalent to Mother’s Day, were women are presented with small gifts.
