March 8, 2018

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 of every year. It commemorates the movement for women’s rights. March 8, was suggested by the 1910 International Socialist Women’s Conference to become an “International Women’s Day”. By 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8, as the United Day for women’s rights and world peace.   In some countries, International Women’s Day is observed as the equivalent to Mother’s Day, were women are presented with small gifts. In some countries (Uganda, Laos, Zambia, Angola), International Women’s Day is an official holiday!!   Since 1996, the United Nations has selected a theme to commemorate our special day. This year’s theme is: “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.

On behalf of the Greater Baltimore APIC Chapter 28 Board, I want to wish you all a happy International Women’s Day!

Sincerely,
