PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It is with great enthusiasm that I step into the role of President of GBAPIC for the 2025 calendar year. Having served on the GBAPIC board as Nominating Chair (2023) and President-Elect (2024), I am deeply honored to continue contributing to an organization that plays such a vital role in advancing infection prevention and control.

With 12 years of experience in infection prevention, I currently serve as the System Director for Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). This perspective has reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration, innovation, and education to address the ever-evolving challenges in our field.

As President, I am committed to fostering relevant educational and professional opportunities that empower our members to excel in their roles. Together, we will work to:

  • Strengthen partnerships within the infection prevention community.
  • Advocate for resources and policies that support the critical work of infection preventionists.
  • Highlight the existing  platforms for mentorship and career development for new and seasoned professionals alike.

I am energized by the opportunities ahead and look forward to working with each of you.. Thank you for trusting me with this responsibility. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, collaboration, and impactful achievements.

APIC Greater Baltimore Chapter is a community leader in infection control, prevention and epidemiology through public policy efforts, education and support of the evidence-based practices and collaboration with State and local entities to reduce hospital acquired infections. The Chapter represents over 190 members from various institutions of healthcare in the Maryland – Baltimore area, providing a diverse and comprehensive representation from Acute Care, Long Term Care, Sub-Acute Rehab, County and State Health Departments and other emergency agencies.

Vision: A safer world through prevention of infection
Mission: To advance the science and practice of infection prevention and control

The healthcare system has reached a critical juncture between patient safety, infection prevention, and quality of care. Significant changes in where care is and will be delivered are central issues. These changes represent an unprecedented opportunity for infection preventionists to accelerate progress toward the elimination of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

APIC leaders believe this is the right time to commit to an uncompromising vision and organize the association’s mission and goals around a plan to advance toward healthcare without infection.
