Meritus Medical Center is a 247 bed acute care facility located in Hagerstown, MD at the crossroads of Western Maryland, southern Pennsylvania, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.  It is the largest healthcare provider and one of the largest employers in Washington County.  Services include a special care nursery, a level III trauma program, a primary stroke center, a wound center, and a cardiac diagnostic laboratory.  The Infection Prevention and Control Department is seeking experienced Infection Preventionists.

Description

Responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing the medical center wide program for the prevention and control of both health care associated and community acquired infections. Surveillance, analysis, reporting and recording activities as well as setting standards and evaluating compliance of practices that are associated with the prevention and control of infections. Coordinating and facilitating meetings of the infection prevention and control committee. Providing consultation and education to administration, committees, and medical center staff on issues relating to infection prevention. Serving as a liaison between the healthcare community, medical staff, and public health authorities. Integrating infection prevention activities into performance improvement, quality, risk management and patient and safety programs. Managing special projects, including outbreak and sentinel event investigations and focus studies related to infection prevention issues. Reviewing impact of new products and procedures on infection prevention. Evaluating patient care environments for infection prevention practices and hazards through environmental inspections and risk assessments.

Requirements

Education – BSN or bachelor's in related field required. Master's degree preferred. Experience – Minimum of five years of recent experience in infection control or public health. Experience with project management and organizational change. Licensure/Certification – Maryland RN or license required as applicable to back ground. CIC preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Computer proficiency, medical terminology, knowledge of CDC reporting requirements for hospital acquired infections, knowledge of epidemiology and surveillance principles, basic statistics, Excel spreadsheet capability, Power Point ability.
