High-Level Disinfection and Sterile Processing:
What Infection Preventionists Need to Know

Friday, November 2nd 2018
8:30 AM-4:30 PM
Oregon Medical Education Foundation Event Center
11740 SW 68th Parkway Suite #100
Portland, OR 97223

Overview:
In 2017, 72 percent of hospitals and critical access hospitals surveyed by The Joint Commission were found to be noncompliant with Infection Control (IC) standard  02.02.01 which requires hospitals to reduce the risk of infections associated with medical equipment, devices and supplies. This includes high-level disinfection (HLD) and sterilization processes.  The conference will focus on this high-risk area by providing hands-on education and training to prepare Infection Preventionists to round and assess practices and processes in departments performing HLD and sterilization. Our conference features a faculty of experienced and informative speakers. Please join us for this unique opportunity to learn and network with infection prevention, industry, and community partners.

Objectives:

  • Review current recommendations and standards for best practices in reprocessing instruments, endoscopes, probes, and other reusable equipment
  • Review current recommendations and standards for quality assurance, monitoring, and documentation of the sterilization and disinfection process
  • Identify areas of risk using the risk assessment process
  • Evaluate the training and competency process
  • Identify tools and resources to support audits and training
