    Hi all:
Just curious if anyone in acute care settings are using purewick or Primofit in place of indwelling foley catheters to reduce CAUTI.  If so, which type and how are they working?

    thanks
    Melanie

    Hi Melanie,
We've been using these for quite some time at our Legacy hospitals. We are currently using the Primafit.  I think it's been a good option for the right patient. It's important for nursing to work with skin care experts to ensure there aren't inadvertent issues. I think it's safe to say that it has reduced our CAUTI but probably has more impact on skin issues as it keeps incontinent patients drier.

    Hi Melanie,

I work at Legacy Health now (hello Susan Diskin :)), but at my previous facility they had used PureWick for years and it worked well.  Last year I led the rollout of Primofit there. It had only been in use for 6 months when I left, and there was an overall reduction in CAUTI since its introduction, but I'm not aware of any formal studies of whether PureWick or Primofit had a direct impact at that particular hospital. It did seem like staff liked Primofit and having a new alternative to IUCs though.  Happy to discuss further by email if you'd like!
