  • 1.  ESBL - transmission-based precautions duration?

    Hi Infection Preventionists,

Question for the group-- What is the duration of transmission-based precautions for ESBL at your facility?  What criteria do you use for discontinuation?

    I appreciate your response,

    Hello Lori,

We isolate for one year from the most recent ESBL positive specimen. For example, if the patient originally tested positive for ESBL on 2/1/21 and then they have another ESBL positive sample on 4/1/21, we'd base the year timeline on the 4/1/21 specimen. As long as it's been greater than a year from the most recent ESBL positive specimen, we don't use any additional criteria for de-isolation.

    Thank you,
