New and novice IPs, are you looking to expand on your IP competency and prepare to take the CIC?
Proficient and expert IPs, are you looking to share your IP knowledge and experience with a new IP to help them grow and develop?
If one of the above descriptions applies, consider participating in APIC MN as a mentor or mentee to a colleague! Help us grow as a chapter and as an Infection Prevention field by sharing our personal and career experience.
How do I participate?
Start by reviewing the APIC MN Mentorship Resources document.
- Mentors, consider how and how often you’d like to connect with a mentee and which areas of the competency model you are most interested in sharing with a mentee. Network with colleagues at chapter meetings or reach out to new APIC MN members to offer your assistance as a mentor. You’re also welcome to email membership@apicmn.org to volunteer as a mentor.
- Mentees, consider how and how often you’d like to connect with a mentor, and which areas of the competency model you are most interested in learning about from a mentor. Write out some goals you would have for a mentor/mentee relationship. Look for a mentor by networking with colleagues at chapter meetings or reviewing the chapter member list below and reaching out to current members. If you have trouble finding a mentor, you’re welcome to email membership@apicmn.org for assistance with finding a good match.
- Once you’ve found a mentor/mentee match
- Determine your mode and frequency of communication (ex. weekly, monthly, quarterly; email, phone, Skype, or in-person)
- Set specific, measurable goals for your relationship (ex. prepare for CIC exam by the end of the year, become competent in NHSN Surveillance, gain Infection Prevention Management or Leadership Skills, etc.)
- Determine the estimated length of time for your formal mentor/mentee relationship (ex. 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc.)
