At RUHS, we do not have an electronic HH monitoring system, but at San Gorgonio we do.  Please see my responses in red.

  1. Are you using an electronic hand hygiene monitoring system if yes then what system do they use? BioVigil
  2. Is the data used to complete the Leapfrog Survey (compatible with Leapfrog requirement)? Yes
  3. Are the reports robust? Yes, they can be.  You must play around with it to figure out what you want to capture.
  4. Does the electronic system integrate with staff badges? Yes, they are now.  It used to be an additional key that was assigned to each employee.
  5. Is this electronic system used in all patient care settings; i.e., ED, output Yes, you can have them placed anywhere you want.
  6. Do they know the approximate cost? Depends on how many the size of the facility and what your needs are.  SG is small, only 79 beds with approximately 350-450 clinical employees that would require monitoring.  We paid, but don’t quote me, $30,000 a year.
  7. Do they feel the system adds value? Well, Leapfrog, CDPH, Joint Commission, and CMS love it.  Staff not so much, and it took a long time to finally get the directors to buy in on it and start holding staff accountable for it.  So, overall, I would say yes.
