Chapter History

The Origin of the Chapter

Early infection control leaders in the Delaware Valley and Philadelphia local area first met in 1972 around the same time APIC was founded, becoming an official chapter within APIC soon thereafter in 1973. Membership was represented in the city of Philadelphia, the five surrounding counties, southern New Jersey, and Delaware. Unfortunately, "Delaware Valley" did not have relevance outside our local area, and there was much confusion about who our chapter truly represented. To alleviate confusion, in 1987, our chapter changed its name to Delaware Valley and Philadelphia APIC. Since then, both southern New Jersey and Delaware formed their own APIC chapters.
