In 1990, the New Jersey State Department of Health in conjunction with the Northern New Jersey and Southern New Jersey Chapters of APIC set out to design an affordable and locally accessible course and resource materials that would prepare the new IP to perform their duties. Working on this collaborative, they brought in local experts in the various aspects of infection prevention to help develop program content and serve as faculty.
The "Basic Course" is offered two times a year, during the spring and fall, at usually at the New Jersey Hospital Association in Princeton New Jersey. The course attracts participants from across the United States as well as internationally.
The facilitators of this course were honored in 2010 as one of APIC's Heroes of Infection Prevention and an APIC Difference Maker in 2013. To view the video that was shown at APIC Conference, click here.

Basic Course for Principles of Infection Prevention and Control
Spring/Fall 2024
New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) and the Northeastern Infection Control Educators (NICE) are excited to provide this in-person educational series jointly.
Dates: April 15-19, 2024 and October 21-25, 2024
Time: Begins at 8AM every day and ends between 3:30-4:30PM.
Location: New Jersey Hospital Association Conference and Event Center, 760 Alexander Rd., Princeton, NJ 08540.
Description: This course is designed to prepare the new Infection Preventionist or person responsible for Infection Prevention and Control to perform the duties required in various types of healthcare settings.
Learner outcomes include:
1. Implement appropriate measures to prevent the spread of infection.
2. Define criteria for identifying healthcare-associated infections.
3. List the the management and communication skills necessary for the coordination of an effective infection prevention program.
