Joint Commission requirement change comment:

The Joint Commission posted an open comment period until JULY 5, 2023, regarding “new” infection control requirements for hospitals and critical access hospitals.

The link indicates, “The Joint Commission is proposing new Infection Control (IC) requirements on preparedness for high-consequence diseases or special pathogens,
which will replace the current standard IC.01.06.01 on preparing for an influx of potentially infectious patients. We are seeking input from the field on the new requirements.”

However, when completing the survey, IPs have found that it isn’t just about IC.01.06.01.

Happy IIPW!

You should all be very proud of the work you do as you strive to keep your patients, their families and staff safe and infection free.

I have a few fun activities and tidbits you all can feel free to use as you please. We have the Ten Commandments of Infection Prevention, a word search (one with and without answers), and the Top Ten List of why to follow IP on the local APIC web site. The National APIC web site also has ideas of activities as well:  http://professionals.site.apic.org/

I hope you can squeeze in some time this week to celebrate all that you do – Patti Kieffer, APIC Chapter President.
