APIC North Carolina Chapter Hosts Fall into the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention Conference

APIC North Carolina celebrated during its 'Fall into the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention Conference' in September 2023. The education planning committee organized a three-day event starting with a hands-on, in-person pre-conference workshop to describe the infection preventionist’s role in sterile processing. This was followed by a 2-day hybrid educational conference with over 100 attendees joining online or face-to-face at the Durham Convention Center.

Speakers delivered on a wide range of issues covering all 8 CBIC IPU domains. Sessions included topics on updated SSI prevention recommendations, emergency management, exposure outbreak investigation, innovative IP education, and IP career development and progression, among others. An exhibit hall showcased 30 industry partners where attendees interacted with vendor representatives while completing a bingo card for door prizes. During the social, attendees connected with peers, played corn hole, and danced the evening away.

Every year, APIC NC looks forward to organizing high quality conference offerings while providing an opportunity for members from all corners of the state and beyond to come together for learning, networking, and friendship.

APIC North Carolina Operation Revitalization

APIC North Carolina Chapter 004 Bylaws Chair

In early 2021, at the height of a global pandemic, APIC North Carolina Chapter 004 embarked on a journey to rejuvenate our chapter program by strengthening our leadership tools to help grow volunteerism. At that time, our operations manual was outdated, lengthy, and underutilized.  We struggled with getting volunteers to run for office due to unclear roles, expectations, and burnout.

Because the foundation of any successful program is based on structure,  we had to establish a strong foundation.  A small group of chapter leaders and active members was hand-selected to work on this initiative.  This dedicated team volunteered their time to evaluate the current manual, review other chapter tools, develop a new template and create a brand-new, comprehensive operations manual including both local and APIC national’s mission and goals.
