APIC NEO Legacy Award

The Legacy award will be a donation to the National APIC Research Program in the name of an APIC NEO member who has consistently shown leadership and knowledge in the field of Infection Prevention throughout their career.

It is our privilege to introduce the first recipient of APIC Northeast Ohio’s Legacy award.

Virginia (Ginnie) Abell - 2017

Ginnie Abell has been making a positive difference in Infection prevention at Summa for over forty years.  She has mentored countless nurses, residents, physicians and students. Ginnie has authored, reviewed, or contributed to countless journals and books throughout her career

 Ginnie was nominated to receive the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Award, received the Cameo of Caring Award at Summa, and was recognized by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology for maintaining that certification since it began in 1983. She is a manuscript reviewer for the Infectious Disease in Clinical Practice Journal and is a member on the United States Hospital Advisory Board on vaccine protocols for Pfizer, Inc.

 

Ginnie is also a member of the Summit County Refugee Health Task Force and provides monthly education to refugees at the International Institute.

 

Everyone who knows Ginnie knows she has a passion for Infection Prevention, for nursing, for our community – and for handwashing
