A Message from the President, Mary Virgallito
Hello APIC Greater Los Angeles Membership,
Thank you for placing your trust in me to lead the Greater Los Angeles Chapter for the next two years.
I consider myself fortunate that I found my way into Infection Prevention six years ago. It is a challenging yet tremendously rewarding career. Even though the landscape is changing, there is one thing about Infection Prevention that will not change. That is the foundational commitment to making the world a safer place by preventing infections. Dedication and concern for the well-being of our patients, our communities, and our world is at the heart of everything we do. I am grateful every day that I have chosen this path.
Our chapter is experiencing unprecedented change and I look forward to an exciting year ahead. The events of the past two years (Ebola, Measles outbreaks, Superbugs, Endoscope contamination issues) have catapulted Infection Prevention issues into the public eye. At the same time, our digital world is changing the way we communicate, network, and socialize.
The spotlight of current events has dramatically increased demands in our already busy professional lives. In 2016, we will find ways to balance our demanding jobs with opportunities to grow our professional body of knowledge, network to share ideas and best practices, mentor new infection preventionists, and advocate legislatively for Infection Prevention.
We are transitioning to a new format for meetings this year – moving away from monthly meetings to a quarterly mini-conference format. Sometimes change is a good thing. This new structure should allow us to make the most of the precious time we take away from our workplace to learn, collaborate, mentor, and advocate. The APIC GLA Board is working on a fantastic line up of speakers for our four in-person 2016 meeting mini-conferences. Please check the Meetings and Events Page and plan ahead to attend these meetings by marking your calendars now to reserve the time.
In addition, we will be hosting monthly member forum conference calls to facilitate networking and collaboration. We are a diverse group of professionals working in a variety of settings. Our membership is a well of institutional infection prevention knowledge-one that should be tapped and shared. These calls are a format for our members to share ideas and to mentor, learn from, and support each other. The calls will take place from 3pm to 4pm on January 26th , February 23rd , April 26th , August 23rd , September 27th, and November 22nd 2016.
I look forward to seeing you all at our 2016 meetings and to speaking with you on the monthly member forum calls.
